Yesterday Books, The 2013 Edition

“Don’t be led away by those howls about realism. Remember-pine woods are just as real as pigsties and a darn sight pleasanter to be in.”
L.M. Montgomery, Emily of New Moon.

Each year, the kids keep journals to document all of their Summer of Funner activities. We call these “Yesterday Books.” In the Summer of 2011, we had large scale yesterday books with half-lined pages. In the Summer of 2012we decorated blank books with Pop-Art Animal Olympians.  This year, we picked up some lovely, black hardbound blank books at the brand new Above Ground Art Supplies in the Beach for less than $5 each.  Since we had some full-page white sticky-backed paper lying around [from a trip to a dollar store ages ago!], we simply cut the pieces to size. The kids used all sorts of art supplies, including oil pastels, permanent marker, highlighter, and washable markers, to decorate their sticky-backed blank pages.  Bea also printed out a fancy initial “B” that she googled to use as a model for her work! Then, we simply slapped the decorated sticky pages onto the fronts of the fresh blank books! Et voila! Yesterday Books, the 2013 edition!  Now all we have to do is fill them up with pictures, stories, poems, and collages that document our Summer of Funner!!!!
